What is Thermal Profiling?
Thermal Profiling is the act of sending datalogging equipment through a thermal process to measure and record the thermal conditions inside. When the thermal process being measured is an oven then this is commonly referred to as Oven Profiling or Oven Mapping.
The datalogging equipment normally travels through the process under standard production conditions (i.e. with product) and is thus able to record the conditions being experienced by the product. A number of thermal parameters may be measured, the most important of which is Heat Flux. Other parameters include air temperature, band temperature and product temperature. The recorded data is displayed as a graph, plotted against either time, distance or percentage, and these graphs are generally referred to as Thermal Profiles.
Thermal Profiling can be used to characterise a range of processes including ovens, cooling tunnels and dryers.
